Donald Jackson
Donald W. Jackson,
Herman Brown
Professor, is
interested in civil
rights policy as
well as comparative
and transnational
human rights
enforcement. His book,
The United Kingdom
Confronts the
European Convention
on Human Rights,
is unusual in the sense that many American scholars have not focused on the European Court of Human Rights, which has become extremely important in European law and politics. His edited book, Globalizing Justice: Critical Perspectives on Transnational Law and the Cross-Border Migration of Legal Norms, co-edited with Michael Tolley and Mary Volcansek, will be published by SUNY Press in 2010.
He
was an observer at
the "United Nations
Diplomatic
Conference on the
Creation of an
International
Criminal Court" in
Rome,
attended the Hague
Appeal for Peace, at which
time the campaign for
ratification of the
International
Criminal Court was
launched, and has been an
invited participant
at conferences on
"Impunity versus
Accountability"
under international
law held at Utrecht,
on
"Universal
Jurisdiction" for
prosecution of war
crimes and crimes
against humanity at
Brussels, and on the
"Legalization of
Human Rights" at
University College,
London. In addition, he has also presented this research at recent conferences in Japan and Geneva. He was an invited participant in the World Legal Forum on "Effective International Dispute Settlement for Public and Private Actors"at The Hague.
His books include: (co-edited with Jim Riddlesperger) Presidential Leadership and Civil Rights Policy; Even the Children of Strangers: Equality Under the U.S. Constitution; and (co-edited with C. Neal Tate) Comparative Judicial Review and Public Policy. He served as Associate Editor of the Thomson/Gale Encyclopedia, Governments of the World and was responsible for international human rights and humanitarian law entries, as well as Caribbean and Latin American countries.
Professor Jackson
launched a Model
United Nations
Program at TCU
in 2003. TCU's Model UN Delegation, now sponsored by Professor Eric Cox, has become a regular part of TCU's Political Science program. It has produced several distinguished delegations under Professor Cox's leadership.
Jackson also serves as TCU's University Pre-Law advisor and as the Coach of TCU's undergraduate Moot Court Team.
