Michael Dodson
Michael Dodson,
Professor, is
interested in the
history of political
thought and in
comparative
politics. His course
offerings include
the "Introduction to
Political Theory,"
an introductory
political science
course entitled "The
Quest for Justice,"
and upper-division
topical courses on
modern political
thought and
political
development in Latin
America. He has
conducted research
in two general
areas. First, he has
studied the role of
religion in Latin
American political
revolutions. His
publications on that
topic include two
coauthored books:
Nicaragua’s Other
Revolution (Chapel
Hill: University of
North Carolina
Press, 1990) and Let
My People Live
(Grand Rapids, MI:
Eerdman’s 1988).
Second, he has
conducted research
with Don Jackson on
efforts to establish
the rule of law in
post-war Central
America. That
research has led to
articles published
in International
Journal of Human
Rights,
Democratization,
Bulletin of Latin
American Research,
and Latin American
Research Review and
Latin American
Politics and
Society. He is
currently carrying
out research on The
Human Rights
Ombudsman in
Honduras, El
Salvador and
Guatemala.

Recommended Links
The websites listed below represent good examples of the kinds of links that can be used to study international or comparative politics themes, particularly those having to do with political change and development in Latin America. The second site listed, which is at the Nettie Lee Benson library at the University of Texas, is especially useful. That site can connect you to many others.
I have found the
sites listed below
to be useful in
preparing my course
on the political
theory of
modernizing
revolutions. Similar
sites are also
available to support
the study of ancient
and medieval history
and political
philosophy.
